Holding Colleges and Universities Accountable for Meeting State Needs
By Alicia A. Diaz, Joan Lord and Joseph L. Marks
SREB's Challenge to Lead goals call for states to hold colleges and
universities accountable for meeting state needs. This report, a part of the
Challenge to Lead education goals series, looks at states' annual reports
for higher education accountability and recommends that states develop public
agendas for higher education. It also describes states' progress on key
indicators: higher education graduation rates, faculty salaries, and science and
research funding. SREB states have improved, but work remains to be done.
Goal that it reflects: The
quality of colleges and universities is regularly assessed and funding is
targeted to quality, efficiency and state needs.
