the social and economic life of the region. Member states include: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana,
Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
SREB's many programs include the nation's:

- first fully integrated Web site for e-learners and adult learners
- largest educational technology collaborative of state K-12 and postsecondary agencies
- only regional council on collegiate nursing education, and many other innovative initiatives to help its member states lead the nation in educational progress.
The organization's central focus is helping states meet the SREB
Challenge to
Lead Goals for Education. SREB assists state leaders by directing attention to key education issues; collecting, compiling
and analyzing comparable data on P-20 education; and sharing its analyses of actions and issues that help states and institutions
form long-range plans and policies.
Organization and Funding
SREB is governed by a Board that consists of the governor of each member state and four gubernatorial appointees,
including at least one state legislator and one educator. SREB is supported by appropriations from its member states and by funds
from foundations and state and federal agencies. For a list of Board members in each SREB state,
