High Schools
The Southern Regional Education Board recognized the critical link between schools and colleges early in
our history. For many years the organization has promoted strengthening graduation requirements
for high school and better preparing
high school students for college and for work.
SREB supports several efforts to improve high schools:
- The High Schools That Work initiative works to strengthen the
academic preparation of vocational students by blending rigorous academic
and vocational studies.
- SREB works to improve all students’ preparation for college and to
provide students in all high schools with access to Advanced
Placement courses.
- The organization promotes the development of
college-to-school reporting systems to give high schools more and better
information about how their
graduates perform in college.
- SREB encourages schools and
colleges to work together to raise academic standards and to improve teacher preparation.
- SREB’s Educational Technology Cooperative works with higher education agencies and
state departments of education on using technology to improve instruction and
provide greater access to a quality curriculum for all high school students.
