ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

SREB staff use the results of the High Schools That Work and Middle Grades Assessments, including student and teacher surveys, to determine professional development priorities for the school year. SREB provides professional development that supports higher achievement for students by preparing teams to more deeply implement proven school and classroom practices.

Following these general guidelines will help districts and schools get the maximum return on their investment in SREB national workshops:

  • Make sure before registering that the content of the workshop is aligned to your school's specific school improvement plan.
  • Complete a pre-work assignment before the workshop all homework assignments during or following the workshop.
  • Attend as a team. Team members will work together to create an implementation plan of specific actions that will improve student achievement when you return to your school.
  • Complete a form at the conclusion of the workshop summarizing what you learned at the workshop, what your implementation plan entails and what kind of support you will need when you return to your schools. SREB will mail the form to principals and/or superintendents so they can provide follow-up support.
  • Attend the entire workshop. The workshop schedule is printed in the brochure and on the SREB web site so participants can make travel arrangements that do not cause them to arrive late or leave early.
