State Affordability Profiles
College affordability — the relationship of the price of higher education to family income — is driven by tuition, financial aid and other measures that differ from state to state. As policymakers seek to improve affordability in their states, these profiles detail state-level data and how each state compares to national and SREB-region averages.

Students from families who can least afford college have been hardest hit by effects of the coronavirus pandemic, making them less likely to start college and less able to continue. This companion piece to the 16 state affordability profiles below offers data for the SREB region and a look ahead to the continuing importance of financial aid for students from low-income families.
