Workforce development stands at the forefront of Southern Crescent Technical College’s mission. Since assuming the presidency nearly three years ago, Irvin Clark, Ph.D., has dedicated himself to advancing this mission through strategic initiatives and impactful partnerships. By collaborating with community leaders and industry stakeholders, Clark has positioned the College to secure vital support through public-private partnerships and philanthropic contributions.

Clark’s extensive experience as an executive in community and technical colleges has been instrumental in his leadership. His background includes academic program development, fundraising, community engagement, strategic planning, economic and workforce development, accreditation, enrollment management, grant writing, and fostering public-private partnerships. These competencies have laid the foundation for his transformative impact at SCTC.

Clark’s academic background further underscores his expertise. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social relations and a master’s degree in adult and continuing education from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. He went on to earn a Doctor of Education in higher education from Morgan State University, an R2/High Research Activity institution in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, he completed a research fellowship at Morgan State as part of the Goldseeker Fellowship program, highlighting his dedication to research in higher education.

During his tenure, Clark has achieved remarkable milestones, including the establishment of key apprenticeship programs, the launch of three Small Business Entrepreneurship Centers, and the upcoming opening of the RAAME Center, which focuses on robotics, automation, advanced manufacturing and economic development. These initiatives address the demand for high-growth career fields and have contributed to a 23% increase in enrollment since he took office.
