ATLANTA — State Representative Terri Collins of Alabama was elected the chair of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Legislative Advisory Council on June 26.

Representative Collins, who lives in Decatur, Alabama, was chosen as the council’s new leader at the SREB annual meeting.

She chairs her state’s House Education Policy Committee and serves on the House Ways and Means Education Committee.

She joined the SREB Legislative Advisory Council in 2012. She was appointed to the full SREB board in 2019 and served on the SREB Teacher Preparation Commission.

Representative Collins succeeds Virginia state Senator Mamie Locke as chair of the Legislative Advisory Council.

State Senator Bob Plymale of West Virginia was elected the vice chair of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Legislative Advisory Council on June 27 at the nonpartisan board’s annual meeting.

Senator Plymale joined both the SREB board and the Legislative Advisory Council in 2003. He joined the board’s executive committee in 2005 and served as board treasurer from 2013 to 2022.

He also has served on the SREB Commission on Career and Technical Education, Commission on College Affordability in the South, Commission on Computer Science and Information Technology, and Middle Grades Commission.

Senator Plymale lives in Huntington, West Virginia.

He succeeds state Representative Terri Collins of Alabama as the council’s vice chair.
