The Future of Athletics at HBCUs
This report summarizes conference discussions related to athletics at historically Black colleges and universities at the 2022 inaugural Ideation, Innovation & Collaboration: The Future of HBCUs conference.
In the Athletic Track, participants explored topics including new opportunities and challenges brought on by changes in policy and the landscape of collegiate athletics, such as name, image and likeness and compensation for scholar-athletes; how to better support scholar-athletes’ needs, both academic and nonacademic, and the role institutional advancement plays in addressing HBCU value, viability and sustainability.
IIC 2022, hosted by the Higher Education Leadership Foundation, convened Historically Black college and university leaders from across the country to imagine the future of the HBCU sector and discuss successes, challenges, threats and opportunities facing HBCUs today.
