Prospective Scholars

Thank you for your interest in the SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program. There are two ways to become a Doctoral Scholar.

1. If your state is participating and you’re in an eligible institution, apply through our online application. The 2025 DSP application period will open in early January. 

2. If your institution partners with the Doctoral Scholars Program and you are interested in being a funded doctoral or dissertation scholar, additional information will be available in early March.

Your institution can partner with the program, or you could apply through our online application if your state is participating and you’re in an eligible institution.

Types of Scholars

There are two categories of DSP Scholar Awards:

State-Funded Scholar awards are available to eligible students in SREB states that partner with the Doctoral Scholars Program. Students in this category have eligibility requirements and apply for the program via the online application portal.

Institutionally Funded Scholar awards are available to eligible students enrolled in institutions that partner with the program. Students in this category are selected by the individual institution to participate.
