Transformative Instructional Strategies

Post

SREB partners with states, districts and schools to deliver robust teacher induction, professional development and instructional coaching services that help good teachers become great teachers and help principals become true instructional leaders.

States, districts and schools may consult with us about their professional learning needs or identify those needs through a curriculum and instruction review, career pathway review or site development workshop.

Professional Learning Focus Areas

SREB’s Powerful Literacy Practices enable teachers in all disciplines, grades 3-12, to increase students’ literacy achievement and content knowledge. Teachers learn how to design assignments that engage students in reading grade-level texts and expressing their understanding of those texts orally and in writing.

SREB’s Powerful Mathematics Practices help math teachers adopt a balanced approach to math instruction that enhances students’ procedural fluency and ability to apply math knowledge and reasoning skills to solve problems. Formative assessment lessons engage students in a productive struggle.

Project-based learning sparks students’ imaginations and helps them think critically and apply academic, technical and workplace know-how to solve problems. Teachers learn how to design assignments that make the project the vehicle for learning content rather than the end goal of a unit.

Career and college counseling helps students connect education with achieving their goals. SREB’s Counseling for Careers and College program shows counselors and teachers how to create curricula and experiences that awaken students to their potential.

CTE teacher preparation helps new teachers become great teachers. Our Teaching to Lead induction model builds the capacity of teachers from business and industry to plan instruction, engage students, manage classrooms, create standards-driven assessments, gain confidence and remain in the profession.

Principal leadership is the key to school improvement. SREB’s Learning-Centered Leadership Program builds the capacity of aspiring school leaders and empowers current leaders to lead changes in school and classroom practices that increase achievement and transform school cultures.

Teachers and school leaders in schools that adopt SREB’s out-of-the-box Advanced Career curricula receive intensive training on how to deliver AC’s student-centered, project-based approach to learning. Follow-up professional development and coaching helps teachers and schools strengthen their implementation of AC pathways and build schedules that support student cohorts and interdisciplinary teacher planning.
